Bishop Sutton, the Diocesan Staff, and Church of the Holy Communion Pro-Cathedral are once again excited to welcome everyone to the Dallas area for the 112th Synod of the Diocese of Mid-America. We look forward to the worship and fellowship of these two days and to share together in the ministry and work of the Diocese of Mid-America. Synod will open with a Eucharist service on Thursday, February 28th at 8:30a. All clergy & deaconnesses are asked to vest & process (Color: RED).
Synod Attendees should plan to arrive in Dallas on Wednesday, February 27th. Synod will adjourn on Friday afternoon once all business is complete. We anticipate this to be no later than 4:30pm but we cannot guarantee this. We have several items of business to present. All attendees should plan on staying until 4:30pm on Friday and make their travel arrangements appropriately. If flying, please note that it can take about 45 minutes to get to the airport on a Friday afternoon and, if renting a vehicle at DFW, the car rental facility requires a shuttle bus to the terminals. Please allow extra time when making your flight arrangements.
On Thursday afternoon, during our teaching sessions, Bishop Sutton has invited the Rev. Dr. Steven Rutt to bring two talks on the, ‘The Transferable Principles of Missions and Church Planting from the Work of the Anglican Missionary, Roland Allen.' Dr. Rutt received his Ph.D. from the University of Lancaster for his brilliant work on the Rev. Roland Allen’s remarkable ground breaking insights into Biblical missionary methods. Consequently Dr. Rutt, a long time Reformed Episcopal priest, scholar and church planter in our diocese, has become one of the foremost authorities in the world on the leading missiologist of the early 20th century. In light of our focus on launching a hundred new REC missions and churches, Dr. Rutt will draw from his scholarly research on the writings of Roland Allen, combined with his practical knowledge of church planting, to help us understand how we might, in our own parish ministries, use Allen’s stunning missiological insights that dramatically changed the colonial missions of the British Empire into the dynamic, indigenous evangelism, missions and growth of the Global South. On Thursday evening, we will have a banquet dinner in Lunt Hall followed by a special musical program in the Sanctuary.
On Friday, the Women of the Church will have their annual lunch and meeting. A barbecue lunch will be served at noon and the meeting will be held in the nave of Holy Communion immediately following lunch until 2:00pm. The Clergy of the Diocese will have a private forum with our Bishops during this time. We will also conduct all business of the Diocese on Friday, including a special presentation concerning the protection of children in the local parish.
As always, we endeavor to keep expenses as low as possible but we do need to ensure that we meet all the rising costs that are incurred with hosting a Synod. To that end, the following will be the price structure for the 112th Synod. The full registration charge includes 2 lunches and the banquet dinner and helps cover all the additional expenses of hosting Synod.
FULL SYNOD REGISTRATION:
$140 (Includes Registration Charge plus 2 Lunches & 1 Dinner)
WOMEN'S DAY LUNCH/PROGRAM:
$25 (if NOT registering for the full Synod).
THURSDAY DINNER & CONCERT:
$45 (if NOT registering for the full Synod)
The Women of the Church will join together for a special time of fellowship and discussion during the scheduled lunch on Friday. After eating some wonderful BBQ at noon, the women will meet in the sanctuary until 2pm. This year's theme for the Reformed Episcopal Women of the Church is "Rejoice in the Lord always" (Philippians 4:4). The REC Women's project is to raise $7,500 to assist in the publication of The Handbook for the Visitation of the Sick.
Those attending just the Women's Day lunch & program will be charged $25 to cover the costs of lunch and Women's Day. Those who are registering for the full Synod already have this built into their registration fee.
You can register for Women's Day through the same Registration System for Synod.
